Knock Knock: Understanding Web Application Defense
There are lots of ways of dealing with authentication, but the interaction before, during, and after is usually ignored. This is pretty much how web applications work today. We don't ask the right questions of users attempting to access our web applications. How sure are you that the user accessing your site is who they say they are? How sure are you that you want them accessing your site at all? Modern Apprenticeship
The world has a digital crisis. We have not had the available talent to fill all the new jobs that are being created. Academia isn't able to prepare a new digital workforce. Traditionally, trade schools which are practice and mentor heavy are better equipped to train craft practitioners. However, the technologies are evolving at a rate that the trade schools can't keep up. We must dig deeper to another model. Apprenticeships are distributed teaching that has been effective for thousands of years. The talk will examine what a modern apprenticeship looks like and how it relates to creating a new skilled workforce with strong networks of professionals.

The Forms of Mobile Engagement From a Technical Perspective
Today’s developers have a plethora of touchpoints that are critical in designing a holistic experience.  With every new connected device comes an opportunity to foster brand interaction across a different medium. And in order to truly engage a consumer, developers must synchronize the puzzle pieces and let each experience—whether mobile or desktop—drive which technology should be used. Responsive design is appropriate on a case by case basis, but shouldn’t be the default. The industry is slowly shifting its focus beyond the traditional swipe of a finger, to gestural response and emerging trends on an international scale. This discussion will break down the forms of engagement from a technology perspective and outline best practices for each.

What technology do the CIA, Google, and kCura have in common?
Latent semantic indexing—and similar analytics technologies—recognizes the conceptual content in text. With the huge amounts of data being produced every day, the possibilities are almost endless.

Data is the New Capital: Understanding the New Data Marketplace
The revolution of data technologies has made it easier and cheaper to store and analyze increasing amounts of data. Yet the real data revolution is not simply understanding the data you have - but getting access to thousands of new sources of geo data, social data, business intelligence and finance data, or any industry data. This panel aims to explore the emerging "data marketplace" where free or paid information is available via API. What startups or corporations should consider monetizing their data? When should data be free, and when should it be billable? How can we enforce the owning / licensing of data? And finally, what are the opportunities for startups to enter the 'data-as-a-service' arena?
